We’re on the lookout for an experienced Analyst, for a period of 6 months who will assist in and deliver accurate and repeatable experiments in the pilot plant in support of research projects in the field of chemical pulping process development. An analyst spends nearly 100% of their time in the laboratory.
This role reports into the Senior Engineer: Fibre Processing
As an Analyst you will be responsible for:
- Perform pilot-scale chemical pulping experiments by following predefined work procedures in the laboratory in support of research, process and product development purposes.
- Use the correct equipment, materials, chemicals and consumables for the type of test according to work instructions without deviating.
- Become familiar with the safety data sheets for the chemicals used in experiments and tests.
- Collect samples from the mill or other departments on request. Prepare and store samples correctly according to defined sampling procedures.
- Monitor and maintain stock levels of consumables, consumables include gloves, glassware, paper towels, plastic bags etc.
- Prepare routine chemicals according to the schedule provided using predefined chemical preparation systems. Record the batch numbers of chemicals in the chemical preparation logbook.
- Use the correct personal protective equipment (PPE) as stated in the laboratory procedures for each type of experiment or test.
- Report hazards, unsafe acts and unsafe conditions to the supervisor immediately and adhere to predefined waste disposal standards.
What are we looking for?
- Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science
- Chemical Engineering National Diploma will be advantageous
- 6 months relevant experience
- Students enrolled in a Chemical Engineering study programme are preferred
