DUTIES:
The Center of Excellence in Primary Care Education (COEPCE) represents a collaborative effort between the VA Puget Sound Health Care System and the University of Washington (UW) which will substantially change the culture within our Primary Care clinics. The COEPCE creates a competitive primary care training tract for select Internal Medicine residents and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) students, establishing a continuity experience for DNP students with quality of care monitoring, adding shared resident and DNP training! seminars, incorporating longitudinal sub-specialty experience and integrating an education expert into the leadership team. The mission of the COEPCE is to provide patient-centered, interprofessional education which will advance primary care by emphasizing effective communication, teamwork and continuous quality improvement, enabling learners to deliver preeminent primary care and creating leaders to work across health disciplines. The Co-Director is an experienced Nurse Practitioner in sub specialty Primary Care, clinical Nurse Education, and patient centered care. The Co-Director will have a 50% appointment as Co-Director and 50% appointment as Clinical Nurse Practitioner, dividing time between primary care clinics and women's health clinics with continuity and precepting in both clinics. The Co-Director will hold a faculty appointment at UW. The Co-Director addresses education for preventive health care, health maintenance needs and primary care to eligible veterans. Th! e COEPCE is a collaborative function with the medical and health care t! eam in a learning environment.The Nurse Practitioner Co-Director will share all aspects of the leadership and management of the COEPCE with the Physician Co-Director. This includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities: curriculum development and delivery, coordination of all components of the School of Nursing contributions to the project, collaboration in the design and implementation of the Performance Improvement and Outcomes Evaluation of the various components, financial management, human resource issues, faculty and trainee professional development, scheduling of clinic and educational activities for DNP students, providing operational supervision of the daily DNP activities, space management and strategic and long range planning. The Co-Directors also work with the Program Directors in other training specialties (Nutrition/Dietetic, Pharmacy, Podiatry, Psychiatry, Psychology, Rehabilitation Medicine and Social Work) to enhance and sustain the interp! rofessional activities of the COEPCE. The Co-Directors also work with Health Care System leadership to ensure the sustainability of the COEPCE beyond the initial 5 year award period. In addition, the Nurse Practitioner Co-Director will collaborate directly with the UW School of Nursing faculty and VAPS Nurse Practitioner clinician educators to support excellent clinical skill development among the DNP student trainees.
