The candidate must have an active license and a Master's degree.

Essential Job Duties :
Conducts intakes, evaluations, and /or assessments for inmates referred by Security, Healthcare staff, and other Community sources. Conducts evaluations to assess the treatment needs of inmates that request or desire mental health services within the jail setting. Identifies mental health symptoms, treatment needs, and makes appropriate recommendations to the healthcare unit and security staff regarding the direction or required level of care. Recommends special housing or special watch and/or observations to security based on clinical findings. Applies appropriate “Hold” (for Suicide Watch Inmates, Acute Inmates, etc…) and documentation in Jail Management Systems. Makes a referral to nursing services based on reported symptoms by the inmate. Recommends medication evaluations to the MD when necessary. Coordinates closely with the psychiatrist to ensure that inmates requiring evaluation for medication or re-evaluation of current medications are seen by the physician in a timely manner and that the psychiatrist is aware of any information pertinent to the inmate’s clinical condition. Assists in the management of medications and is able to identify when an inmate s are at risk due to side effects. Recommends and conducts other non-pharmacological treatments such as Group or individual therapy, when appropriate. Provides consultation to security and healthcare staff regarding inmate’s behavior, safety concerns or other mental health concerns. Identifies and conducts other essential treatment services such as, psychoeducational groups, art therapy, pre-release counseling and other transitional groups, when appropriate. Is able to provide linkage and/or discharge planning services when necessary or when appropriate. Provides mental health crisis intervention for the entire facility. Provides suicide intervention and management of suicidal and high risk inmates. Provides clinical supervision for inmates or patients on his/her caseload. Provides treatment plans for inmates on his/her caseload with regular updates when needed. When applicable, participates in the treatment programming and planning discussion of problem cases, follow up and monitoring of medication, and general psychiatric input. Attends regular treatment team multidisciplinary meetings, classification meetings, or other required administrative meetings. Participates in CQI and / or QA studies and group sessions. Monitors the clinical condition and treatment needs of special inmate population (e.g. Guilty but Mentally Ill or inmates receiving anti-psychotic medication) as determined necessary by institution or agency directive or policy. Provides treatment services (such as group therapy) in all areas of the jail including, Special Housing Units and the General Population of the jail. Works effectively with all staff including security, healthcare and administrative staff. Provides on-call services when not on-site. Provides staff training in relevant mental health issues such as signs and symptoms of mental illness, management of mentally ill inmates, crisis intervention and related topics. Documents services and encounters appropriately and accurately according to facility and company policies. Maintains required documentation throughout all encounters, provides accessibility of notes for staff by following filing policies, and ensures transfer of information by producing organized and legible notes. When applicable, initiates involuntary hospitalization for those inmates who need to be transferred to outside Mental Health facilities. Generates appropriate paperwork relevant to the hospitalization.
