THIS IS A NON-BARGAINING UNIT POSITION. This position is located within Mental Health Service Line, American Lake Division, Tacoma, WA.

DUTIES:
The psychologist serves as the Director, Psychology Training and Staff Psychologist in the Outpatient Mental Health Clinic at the American Lake Division of the VA Puget Sound Health Care System.

As Director, Psychology Training, the psychologist will provide broad program management responsibilities for an APA-accredited psychology training program, currently consisting of 6 pre-doctoral psychology interns. The psychologist is responsible to organize, direct, administer, and manage all aspects of the psychology training program to include: (1) comprehensive planning, developing, and implementing policies and procedures; (2) determining needs of the program; (3) overseeing the quality and quantity of training; (4) maintaining ongoing APA accreditation; and (5) establishing program initiatives and direction within parameters of available staff and budget.

As Staff Psychologist in the Outpatient Mental Health Clinic , the psychologist's primary duties include but are not limited to: 1) psychological assessment and diagnosis of mental disorders, particularly for complex or unusually difficult patients; 2) evidence-based psychotherapy interventions, including individual, couples, and group psychotherapy; 3) case management and treatment planning for an assigned caseload; 4) consultation and education to professional staff within the team, facility, and community; and (5) supervision and training of psychology interns, psychology postdoctoral fellows, and psychiatry residents.

Work Schedule: 8am - 4:30pm, Monday-Friday

Relocation expenses have not been authorized.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
BASIC

REQUIREMENTS:
· U.S. citizenship

· English language proficiency (written and spoken)

· Physical standards - All applicants must meet the physical standards for the position. A physical examination prior to employment may be required.

· Have a doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). The specialty area of the degree must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed.

· Have successfully completed a professional psychology internship training program that has been accredited by APA.

· Hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (e.g., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia. Exception : The Secretary may waive the requirement of licensure for an individual psychologist for a period not to exceed 2 years from the date of employment on the condition that such a psychologist provide care only under the supervision of a psychologist who is so licensed. Non-licensed psychologists who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements may be given a temporary appointment as a graduate psychologist under the authority of 38 U.S.C. § 7405 (a) (1) (D). Failure to obtain licensure during that period is justification for termination of the temporary appointment. This may result in termination of employment.
