The incumbent will serve as an Advanced Medical Support Assistant. The incumbent will be assigned to the Outpatient Mental Health clinic, Seattle Division at VA Puget Sound Health Care System (VAPSHCS). The incumbent is responsible for performing a variety of technical support duties that facilitate the work of an interdisciplinary clinical team (physician/psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, psychologists, registered nurses, social workers, therapists, and interdisciplinary trainees) who provide direct patient care to our Veterans.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- The Advanced Medical Support Assistant independently manages position responsibilities without the need for supervisory intervention/input.
- Independently sets priorities and deadlines, adjusting the flow and sequencing of the work to meet team and patient needs.
- The position typically has responsibility for! the overall coordination of clinic cancellations, clinic schedules (in! cluding appointment scheduling and changes), and arrangements for special studies.
- The incumbent provides clinic operational support to the clinic manager in an effort to control and stabilize workload and reports any fluctuation.
- The incumbent should display knowledge of clinic procedures and regulations; basic medical terminology, skill in operating computer systems and Microsoft applications to accurately enter or extract information.
- Serves as a clinic patient advocate by answering patient inquiries and resolving patient concerns at a local level.
- The Advanced Medical Support Assistant also provides any related instructional sheets, initiates authorization forms for special procedures and facilitates patient appointments; assures routing forms are provided to patient at each visit (medication reconciliation; health questionnaires, check-in sheet; surveys, etc).
- Provides orientation and assistance with on-the-job training of n! ew/current Medical Support Assistants.
- The Advanced Medical Support Assistant participates in the daily team huddles and weekly team meetings where patient care planning and management occur.
- Additional duties may be assigned to ensure efficient daily operations.

Monday 8:00am - 4:30pm
Tuesday 8:00am - 4:30pm
Wednesday 11:30am - 8:00pm
Thursday 8:00am - 4:30pm
Friday 8:00am - 12:00pm
Saturday 8:00am - 12:00pm

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

U.S. citizenship Experience/Education - Six m! onths experience of clerical, office or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of this position;
OR one year above high school;
OR equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level which both education and experience are acceptable.
Physical standards - All applicants must meet the physical standards for the position.
Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
GRADE REQUIREMENTS : Experience - One year of experience equivalent to the GS-5 grade level. Experience that may be qualifying includes scheduling, canceling, and rescheduling appointments, interpreting and verifying provider orders, entering no-show information, preparing for clinic visits, monitoring both inpatient and outpatient appointments for areas of responsibility, ensuring forms are completed in order to obtain appropriate workload credit, verify! ing and updating demographics and insurance information, processing all emergency and non-emergency transfers to other facilities or hospitals, and determining basic eligibility, co-pays and preauthorization requirements for specific coverage.

2. Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively, both orally and in writing, in order to meet program objectives. This may include preparing reports in various formats and presenting data to various organizational levels.
3. Advanced knowledge of the technical health care process as it relates to acc! ess to care.
4. Advanced knowledge of managing a clinic. This ! includes independently utilizing reference sources, decision making, and empowering the team to collaborate and resolve problems within a complex systems environment.
5. Advanced knowledge of policies and procedures associated with operational activities that affect the patient flow, patient care, and the revenue process.
6. Advanced knowledge of medical terminology due to the technical nature of language utilized by clinicians.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The work is sedentary, but includes some
walking, bending and carrying of light items such as supplies, papers, and
books. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
