C.N.A.'s to work in our inpatient Geriatric Psychiatry Unit. These are per diem position
covering for v! acations, sick calls and leaves.
Per-Diem Requirements:
Per diem employees must be
available a minimum of three (3) scheduled shifts each month, or the
equivalent in a six (6) month period at the approval of the Department
Manager/Director, as well one (1) of three (3) summer holidays (Memorial
Day, Independence Day, or Labor Day) and one (1) of three (3) winter
holidays (Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, or New Yearâs Day).
Job Summary:
This
job is responsible for assisting in the delivery of non-professional
nursing care, under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) in a
defined care team and in accordance with scope of practice. An
incumbent performs the basic aspects of general patient care where
the services of a registered or licensed practical nurse are not
required. Employees assist medical/nursing staff in the
examination, treatment and care of patients, including the transpo! rt
of patients and equipment and assisting in the admissio! n, transfer
and discharge of patients.
Tasks are assigned by
nursing staff in clear, detailed and specific instructions.
Employees work as instructed and seek guidance on matters not
specifically covered in the original instructions. Work is reviewed
through progress checks for accuracy, adequacy and adherence to
standards, instructions and established procedures.
Essential Duties:
Provides
patient personal care/hygiene and physical comfort, including
feeding, bathing, shaving, changing clothes, cleaning, bed-making,
assisting with ambulation, enemas, skin care and bowel/bladder
elimination; provides such additional care as required to meet the
personal needs and comfort of assigned patients based on skill,
ability, limitations of scope of practice and patient acuity.
Reports
and documents patient temperature, pulse, respiratory rate, blood
pressure and oxygen saturation. Obtains a! nd records measurement of
patient height and weight; attaches patient to monitoring equipment.
Observes and reports changes in patient condition.
Assists
nursing staff in the admission, discharge and transfer of patients
by performing activities such as inventorying/storing patient
belongings, providing patient with relevant personal care/comfort
items, orienting patient/family and transporting patient to room or
other location using wheelchairs, stretchers or patient beds.
Obtains and labels a variety of samples (e.g. urine, stool and sputum specimens); transports blood and blood products.
Prepares
patient, equipment and supplies for specific
procedures/examinations; instructs/assists patient in removing
articles of clothing, jewelry and related items; escorts patient to
dressing booths and assists them in putting on gown; assists with
lifting, turning and moving patient and transfer to/from bed and!
procedure table.
Provides patient information to nursing !
staff for inclusion in the interdisciplinary plan of care; documents
relevant patient data in accordance with work unit standards.
Performs basic life support, and gives assistance to medical staff during medical and disaster emergencies.
Maintains
a neat and organized work environment. Orders, stocks and
replenishes supplies and equipment as necessary; identifies and
reports problems with supplies or equipment; enters equipment repair
requests in system, tags equipment and removes from service.
Maintains
an organized and safe work and patient environment, adhering to the
hospital's Safety, Risk Management and regulatory standards.
Participates in quality assurance/improvement initiatives and activities as requested. Participates in growth opportunities.
Qualification
Education:
Completion of an accredited Nursing Assistant program.
Experience:
One year exper! ience in a skilled nursing or hospital setting preferred.
Geropsych experience preferred.
License/Certification:
Current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant by the State of Washington.
Current BLS certification
