Consulting Psychiatrist - Homeless Program

Location: Seattle, Washington

Description: Neighborcare Health is in need of Consulting Psychiatrist - Homeless Program right now, this job will be situated in Washington. Consult with the Homeless Program’sTeams regarding patient diagnoses and treatment plans, including medication management. Provides direct patient ! service for initial assessment and diagnosis, as well as treatment recommendations and management. All referrals to the Consulting Psychiatrist come through the nurses, behavioral health counselors or primary care providers in the Homeless Programs. This is a 15 hours a week position.

Provide quality psychiatric assessment services for all patients referred by Neighborcare Health Homeless Programs Primary Care Providers (PCP’s), Nurses or Behavioral Health Counselors in a timely manner

Provide chart review and consultation as requested by PCPs, Nurses or Behavioral Health counselors

Confer as needed with primary care providers, nurses and behavioral health staff to consult and advise regarding management for patient’s psychiatric issues

Complete 100% of chart notes within 24 hours for each visit

Accurately complete 100% of EM coding each day

May provide supervision of or training for students who are assigned to Neig! hborcare Health as part of their professional education
Establish an enhanced coordination of care with RSN’s

Participate in team meetings for training, case consultation and development of multidisciplinary approach to patient care.

Develop relationships with psychiatric residency programs for rotation placement in the Neighborcare Health’s Homeless Programs.

Involves over 4 hours/day average sedentary work

Current immunizations as required by Neighborcare Health’s immunization policy.

Carries minimal risk of exposure to infectious agents, including HIV, Hepatitis, and TB

Travel within Seattle between Clinics and Homeless shelters

Required Skills

Knowledge of issues facing patients with co-occurring substance abuse and homelessness, mental health problems and chronic illness

Knowledge of medical terminology and clinical procedures; medical record-keeping procedures; use of computers including EHR

Ability to communicate effectively! with physicians, nurses and mental health counselors regarding patient treatment issues and with people of varied racial educational and socio-economic backgrounds as well as individuals with disabilities and contagious diseases

Ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive patient information and comply with HIPAA/Confidentiality policies and procedures

Ability to organize, problem solve and to follow-through

Ability to learn from directions, observations and mistakes and apply procedures using good judgment

Ability to effectively perform responsibilities under high levels of activity, variety of conditions and restraints

Ability to be detail oriented, multi-task, organize, problem solve and to follow up on tasks

Ability to read, write and communicate in English and understand basic math

Ability to work independently or as part of a team and interact appropriately with co-workers and patients

Ab! ility to work with supervision, receiving instructions/feedback, coachi! ng/counseling and or action/discipline

Ability to sustain predictable, reliable and timely attendance

Must have valid driver's license

Required Experience

MD degree and Board-certified or Board eligible in psychiatry

Minimum of five years as a practicing psychiatrist

Experience with consultation for primary care providers preferred

Experience with evaluation and treatment of patients with substance abuse and homelessness preferred

Knowledge of local mental health resources preferred
