The Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences currently has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Study Coordinator 1 . This individual will assist with research coordination and support for the Determining Alcohol use and Risk-Taking (DART) project, the Studying Alcohol and Related Risks (STARR) project, and the Evaluating Personalized Information and Choices (EPIC) project. The employee in this position will work closely with the Principal Investigators and colleagues of these research projects in development and implementation of the three NIH funded studies evaluating interventions aimed at reducing extreme drinking and related negative consequences among college students and young adults.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with preparation of web-based assessment materials;
  • Assist with forms, questionnaires, and clinic procedures for collecting and summarizing observations and data during in-person ! interventions;
  • Assist with recording behavior of subjects using sound equipment;
  • Assist with research protocol and monitoring research study staff and participant adherence to protocol; assist with correcting problems such as deviation from research protocol; assist with monitoring participant data to determine accuracy of research data;
  • Collaborate with the Principal Investigators in subject recruitment and participation in the studies using a computerized system for tracking study participants and ensuring study compliance and retention;
  • Assist with programming and beta testing DatStat Illume web surveys;
  • Assist with coordinating and payment of participants (both monetarily and with gift cards);
  • Assist with procedures for maintaining project financial records;
  • Reconcile projects’ revolving fund/petty cash accounts as needed;
  • Assist with studies’ budgetary and subject payment projections; manage st! udy inventory and supplies;
  • Assist with preparation of agendas! , scheduling, and organizing project meetings within the lab;
  • Assist with preparation of human subjects consent forms, modifications, and annual progress reports for institutional review board;
  • Work with Principal Investigators in drafting forms, surveys (on the web), questionnaires, and procedures for collecting study data; use database management programs (e.g. Microsoft Access) to recruit potential subjects and determine eligibility according to established criteria; assist in modifying procedures for collecting and summarizing data; assist with preparation of reports, graphs, tables, and charts;
  • Assist Principal Investigators with new research proposals; assist with procedures for the design of measurement instruments and scoring systems;
  • Perform related duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS:
Two years of college level course work in a relevant academic area AND two years of experience as a Research Study Assistant

Additional Requirements:
  • Experience preparing human subjects applications and modifications.
  • Experience working with research subject participants.
  • Familiarity with motivational interviewing.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in programming DatStat Illume surveys.
  • Proficiency in basic computer software and database applications (Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Access). Experience building database Access.
  • Must be able to communicate via email effectively and efficiently.
  • Experience supervising and coordinating staff.
  • Comfortable talking with participants in person and over the phone.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there a! re legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
DESIRED:
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience with SPSS, and/or SAS.
  • Knowledge of drinking literature.
  • Experience with web-based data administration.
  • Experience with grant preparation and administration.
Condition of Employment:
Appointment to this position is contingent upon obtaining satisfactory results from a criminal background check.
