The Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences currently has an outstanding opportunity for a part-time Research Scientist 2 . This individual will perform a variety of duties and responsibilities in support of the Department’s research goals, including but not limited to the following:

Research Design and Implementation:

  • Assist the Principal Investigator in developing and enhancing interventions targeting substance-use disorders as well as integrating qualitative and quantitative methods to more comprehensively investigate individual-level causes and correlates of initiation, maintenance and change in substance-use behaviors.
  • Engage and recruit homeless participants within community-based settings (e.g., Housing First projects, shelters, sleep-off facilities, etc). With the research aims and methodologies in mind, review and select all suitable participants.
  • Conduct the informed! consent process while complying with all UW, state, and federal policies and guidelines.
  • Conduct face-to-face alcohol-focused research assessments on all participants. Record and organize all findings.
Research Data Management:
  • Track participants through the research study and maintain strong participant-researcher relationships.
  • Manage and maintain study data from face-to-face assessments and follow-ups.
  • Review findings and prepare data for the Principal Investigator to present to stakeholders.

REQUIREMENTS:
Master’s Degree in Public Health, Nursing, Social Work, Clinical Psychology or related field and a minimum two years’ experience working with clients in a clinical or counseling context and two years of res! earch experience.

  • Evidence of independence, excellent! verbal and written communication skills, strong organizational ability, effective time management skills, strong problem-solving skills, and high attention to detail.

DESIRED:
  • Experience working in a health-care or service setting with homeless individuals
  • Experience working in a health-care or service setting with individuals with psychi! atric and substance-use disorders
  • Experience working in community-based settings serving American Indian/Alaska Native individuals and other individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Background in motivational interviewing and/or harm reduction treatment
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal skills and competence communicating and working with health professionals, faculty members and researchers, and diverse groups within the general public
