Our Mental Health Services has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time MENTAL HEALTH PRACTITIONER. This position is a member of Harborview's Downtown Mental Health Team. This position is located in homeless shelters in downtown Seattle and works closely with the Mental Health Team and shelter staff. The job requires the ability to contact and engage clients within the shelters and case manage referrals from Emergency Departments and King County Jail.

As part of the Downtown Mental Health Team, this person works closely with a designated psychiatrist in the treatment and management of each client. The Practitioner provides referral services and counseling related to housing, entitlements, primary care, mental health and chemical dependency treatment services. Job Responsibilities Include: Participate as a! member of a multi-disciplinary team to serve homeless people. Provide outreach/engagement services for difficult-to-reach clients, initially addressing basic needs of food, clothing, shelter, and medical care.

Conduct psychiatric evaluations and social service needs assessment. Develop treatment plans and follow-up strategies making referrals and using a case management approach as indicated. Provide counseling/psychotherapy. Recommend and monitor use of medication in mental health treatment.

Participate in psychiatric consultation, supervision, program meetings. Document patient care in a manner that reflects recognition of the legal significance of an accurate and complete mental health record. Develop, implement, and document teaching specific to the patient populations served by the Health Care for the Homeless Mental Health team. Act as an advocate for the patient/family through such activities as organizing patient care conferences and safeguarding ! patient's privacy and confidentiality.

Requirements: Master's Degree in behavioral sciences, such as psychology, psychiatric nursing, occupational therapy, vocational or educational counseling, or social work OR Bachelor's Degree in nursing or a behavioral science AND three years' of experience in the direct delivery of professional mental health care.

Desired: Minimum one year experience working with homeless/mentally ill and/or chemically dependent patient population. Minimum one year working in an outpatient setting.
